The Joy of Feeding — An activity for the Soul

Gouri Gupta

We all love to eat — it’s a classic fact. Good food brings us in a good mood — and who doesn’t like to feel good? My main motto for each day of my life is to make everyone around me ‘feel good’. This simple concept gets easily lost in our world of restrictions, social status, and modern mindsets. Feeding is as joyful activity as eating is — it’s like, I am the happiest when I can see you happy. Being a people pleaser has become a secondary trait to our vibrant personalities. But a lot of us do not realise that we can reform this trait for the greater good. Consider it a glow-up, a step higher to make someone feel good — whether it is by showing love, affection, sympathy and soul-nourishing foods! Self-change is a lengthy but rewarding process. Food has a tendency of being a comfort to us in times of anxiousness, tension, unhappiness, anger — you name the emotion, and there is food to fix it!

For example, if you ever ask someone why they eat, their answer would be something on the lines of, ‘to live’ — but if in reality, you notice, that you, or anyone else, gets excited when served with your (their) favourite dish. The mere sight of flavourful and colourful food can cause the release of ‘feel-good’ chemicals in the brain. Like Elizabeth Olsen rightly says, ‘I get way too much happiness from good food.’

Use this thought to your advantage — whether you purchase some food (the more nutritious, the better), or prepare some food with a nice thought at the back of your mind, or just put together someone’s favourites — you are taking a step towards making them feel good. For the science of it, there are various foods that can genuinely scientifically lift your mood, whether you cook it and eat, or purchase and consume. Here’s a small list of ingredients to look out for a mood-lifter:

  • Dark Leafy Greens
  • Chia
  • Lentils
  • Eggs
  • Avocado
  • Bell Peppers
  • Almonds
  • Chocolate
  • Sunflower Seeds
  • Sweet Potato
  • Ghee

My journey with Gouri’s Goodies is a product of my habit (the best part of my day) to make people feel good. While my family would forage in supermarkets for something to constantly snack on, I would be scrutinising the ingredient labels to ensure that they aren’t eating processed foods on the regular. I finally realised — why buy snack items, when I could put a little extra effort into prepping them at home? Thus, was born Gouri’s Goodies — there is not one product on my range that is not my favourite. I love each product I have created — keeping in mind taste preferences, nutritive requirements and compact packaging!

My product range was created keeping in mind one goal — to make people feel good. Right from the ingredients to the packaging, Gouri’s Goodies products are honestly, delicious and a treat for the eyes! Happiness and food are highly connected, right from the pleasure of cooking, and the satisfaction of eating to the ups and downs in brain chemistry that every bite of food and its ingredients can bring about! I quote you, Auguste Escoffier, ‘Good food is the foundation of genuine happiness.’ This is very true in so many ways — pick a bunch of ingredients — you will see what makes you happy!
